Automatic movement

A Swiss Made automatic movement is the absolut centrepiece of every Grovana automatic watch. In the limited-edition Airborne II, we install the precise, robust and artfully decorated P092 NEWTON movement. It combines Swiss precision, quality and reliability and epitomises the art of watchmaking.

The movement is characterised by a full balance bridge at 6h, which, together with the Incabloc® double cone shock protection, optimally protects the exposed balance wheel. With 23 jewels, a reliable 44-hour power reserve and the elegant Côte de Genève finish, the P092 NEWTON movement impresses with both technical perfection and timeless elegance.

Airborne II

Uncompromising design and precise timekeeping make the Airbrone II an icon of pilot's watches. Thanks to the distinctive hands and pronounced numerals, the Airbrone II guarantees optimum readability in all situations. The combination of steel case and leather strap is a loving homage to the pioneering days of aviation.

On the back of the limited-edition anniversary Airborne II pilot's watch, the exhibition back reveals the exclusive automatic P092 NEWTON movement, which is finished with an elegant Côte de Genève cut.

History of Grovana

The history of Grovana Uhrenfabrik AG is a fascinating journey through the world of watchmaking. Founded in 1924 by Hans and Walter Gröflin as H. and W. Gröflin Uhrenfabrik AG, the company initially focussed on the production of watch movements. In 1961, Hans Gröflin ventured into self-employment and founded Hans Gröflin AG, for which he built a new factory at Bisnachtweg 42.

A turning point came in 1970, when Werner Bitterli took over the company and renamed it Grovana Uhrenfabrik AG. Just one year later, he presented the first Grovana watch collection and reduced the production of watch movements. In the 1980s, while the Swiss watch industry was experiencing its greatest crisis. Bitterli focused on the new analogue quartz watches and achieved great success with them. This demand led to the first expansion of the productionbuildings in 1985.

In the 1990s, Grovana conquered the markets in Eastern Europe and Russia and introduced the Swiss Alpine Military by Grovana models in 1998. In 2001, the company secured a licence agreement with Revue Thommen AG and began manufacturing mechanical movements for this brand. Additional building expansions followed in 2003 and the opening of its own watchstore in Liestal in 2007.

Today, in 2024, Grovana is celebrating its 100th anniversary and remains a major player in the art of watchmaking, firmly anchored in Tenniken.
